Outside Sales Representative Job Title: Outside Sales Representative – Masonry, Concrete and Restoration Materials Department: Outside Sales Team Position Summary – Build lasting working relationships with both existing and prospective contractors by making yourself abundantly available to offer sound technical support, assist in the bidding process and promote new and innovative products and sales. Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned. Compile lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads based on information gathered from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, internet web sites, bid lists, etc. Assemble sales call routes for each day by grouping regular and prospective customers according to geographic location. Call contractors to set up a meeting with purchasing agent(s) prior to visits. Assemble custom tailored sales folders complete with carefully selected price sheets, product data sheets, material samples and other key sales aids which will help “seal the deal”. Travel through assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, or talk with customers on the sales floor or by phone. Maintain customer files (either physical or digital) complete with all contact information for each client. Schedule follow-up phone calls and/or meetings with prior contacts on a regular basis. Remain available to customers for technical support, product recommendations, job visits, product demos, bid requests, and orders. Coordinate customer training as well as display or demonstrate products using samples or catalogs. Quote pricing and credit terms to contractors or forward special pricing and/or bid requests to the sales manger for compilation or approval. Prepare sales summary for quarterly sales meetings and maintain mileage and expense logs. Work closely with the sales manager to discuss industry news, material pricing, special contractor pricing, project bids or when recommending new products. Communicate customer issues or complaints with the sales manager in an effort to facilitate a resolution. Attend or host trade shows, product demonstrations, lectures and/or dinners to network with clients and enhance personal product/industry knowledge. Must have experience in outside sales. Must demonstrate the ability to properly use a computer to place or invoice orders as well as retrieve sales information from our accounting program. Must be able to use various other computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet browsers. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly with customers and other employees in a courteous, knowledgeable and polite manner. Must have a valid driver’s license and properly insured/registered vehicle in accordance with Illinois state law. Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record. Must be able to read architectural drawings and estimate material quantities. Education and/or Experience – Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have prior experience selling and/or using some or all of the products sold by Henry Frerk Sons, Inc. Language Skills – Must be able to read, write, communicate and understand the English language. Spanish and/or Polish language skills are desirable, but not required. Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and other employees. Mathematical Skills – Must have sufficient mathematical skills to calculate material quantities from architectural drawings or field measurements and to quote a total price for the materials purchased. Reasoning Ability – Must have the ability to determine the appropriateness of a product for a particular application. Certificates, Licenses and Registrations – Must have a valid driver’s license, registered and insured motor vehicle in compliance with Illinois state law. Physical Demands – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to access construction sites via stairs, ramps, ladders, elevators, etc. Must be able to spend at least 30%-50% of the day standing and walking on surfaces such as concrete, wood and metal, sometimes in slippery, muddy and wet conditions. Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 6 hours. On some days you may be required to spend up to 30%-50% of on-duty time in a car driving to various appointments or jobsites.
