ABOUT OUR COMPANY:

  • Henry Frerk Sons, Inc. is a 133-year-old company owned by the same family for five generations.  HFS is a distributor of materials for the masonry, concrete, sewer, plaster, stucco and historic preservation trades.  Additionally, HFS operates a fleet of volumetric concrete trucks which produce extremely unique high-performance specialty mix designs for bridge overlays, road and deck repairs.  Given the seasonal nature of the construction industry, HFS is extremely busy and very fast paced during the summer seasons and slow during the winter months.

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • To support our Specialty Concrete Division Vice President by managing, directing and supervising all aspects of on-site production of our specialty concrete mixes to maintain our high standards in quality control.  Should this employee demonstrate an aptitude for this position, they will be groomed to take over as Division Vice President upon the retirement of the current officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • 1. Assist with the driver hiring process.
  • 2. Oversee and administer driver recognition and discipline as needed.
  • 3. Conduct driver training and maintain records of volumetric concrete trucks, front end loaders, boom trucks, Moffett trucks, and forklifts.
  • 4. Develop and implement a volumetric concrete truck operation re-training program to enhance quality control measures with each driver/operator.
  • 5. Develop and implement E-ticketing system with our volumetric concrete trucks.
  • 6. Prepare and submit project submittals.
  • 7. Attend pre-pour meetings.
  • 8. On site monitoring of concrete pours to enhance quality control.
  • 9. Manage pour teams on site: liaison between contractor and HFS team, insure enough materials are on hand to complete job.
  • 10. Assist with project scheduling.
  • 11. Assist with project bidding.
  • 12. Oversee truck calibration.
  • 13. Manage drivers on jobsites with loading, pouring, cleaning, etc.
  • 14. Assist with project invoicing.
  • 15. Attend trade conferences, dinners, networking events, and architectural seminars as needed.
  • 16. Host demonstrations and/or presentations relating to our specialty concrete products and equipment.
  • 17. Oversee truck maintenance program.
  • 18. Train as backup dispatcher.
  • 19. Assist with truck maintenance in mechanics garage as needed to learn the equipment.
  • 20. Update concrete mix designs and submittal packages annually.
  • 21. Other work can be assigned as necessary.

Knowledge-

  • Have a basic understanding of concrete technology such as slump, air content, types of mixes and their relative strengths and effects of various admixtures.
  • Have an understanding and familiarity with aggregates and their quality control testing.

Skills-

  • LANGUAGE:  Must be able to read, write, communicate and understand the English language.  Although it is not a requirement, applicants who speak, read and write fluently in Spanish will be considered strong candidates for this position.
  • ORAL COMMUNICATION:  Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listens and gets clarification, responds well to questions and participates in meetings.
  • WRITTEN COMMUNICATION:  Writes clearly and informatively, presents numerical data effectively and is able to read and interpret written information.
  • MATHEMATICS:  Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Must be able to compute ratios, percentages and be able to calculate discounts and interest.  Basic geometry skills relating to the calculation of area, volume and circumference will be necessary for determining material usage.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS:   Must have knowledge of basic database software, internet software, inventory software, order processing systems, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • EDUCATION:  Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands –

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and/or walk on surfaces such as concrete, wood and metal in sometimes slippery, muddy and wet conditions.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • 1. May spend up to 60%-80% of time out-of-doors, exposed to potentially difficult environmental conditions.
  • 2. Will be subject to irregular work schedules, temperature and weather extremes.
  • 3. Will occasionally involve overnight or weekend travel.

Hours of Work-

  • There will be few instances where this position will have set regular hours of work.  During the busy summer months this position will be responsible for overseeing our concrete pours at any hour or day of the week.  It is not uncommon for this position to work nights, weekends and extended work days well beyond the traditional 8 hours.  Sometimes concrete pours may be out of state which can require overnight stays in hotels for several days.  This is a salaried position so no overtime will be paid; however, the company will make a reasonable effort to allow for extra time off to help balance the variable working schedule.
